November 11 - Commemoration of the Armistice of 1918

On November 11, the anniversary of 'Armistice of 1918 that marks the end of World War I (1914-1918). This historic event took place at 5:12 in a railway carriage in the Forest of Compiegne by the direction of General Foch, and was followed by the Treaty of Versailles of June 28, 1919.

The actors were then France with its allies and Germany. This day is a national holiday in France and the suit is so celebrated a memorial service in central Paris, at the foot of the majestic Arc de Triomphe. It is here that in 1921 was buried the body of the Unknown Soldier (chosen from the many war dead buried in the citadel of Verdun), accompanied then by 1923, the Eternal Flame monument, which gives an additional symbols and political power co.

Each year, therefore, there is the presence of French President who, along with any guests (in 2009 Germany's Angela Merkel, the year in which this picture), the first person to participate in various ceremonies and award ceremonies and relighting of the Eternal Flame .

It is likely, as last year, participating in the side of President Nicholas Sarkozy, his wife Carla Bruni.

This year's program therefore provides for the day November 11, 2010:
  • 10:30 am - laying of wreath at the foot of the statue of Georges Clemenceau;
  • 10:50 hours - Arrival of President Nicholas Sarkozy on Place Charles de Gaulle, on a final review of the troops;
  • 11:00 - Ceremony of Remembrance under the Arc de Triomphe, the filing of wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier; re-ignition of the eternal flame, the signature of the Golden Book by Sarcozy and his guests, uncovering the veil that covers the plaque commemorating the event on 11 November 1940
If you decide to participate in the commemoration must know that the area under the Arc de Triomphe is inaccessible to the public as fully occupied by the personality and military representatives.
The area to the public is instead located on the sidewalks and gardens of the outer perimeter Étoile, the large roundabout which is at the center of the Arch. The other areas for the public are instead largely along the Champs Elysees linked precisely the location of the ceremony to Eliseum.
Keep in mind that in order to enter these areas must be fenced and searched thoroughly for obvious safety reasons by the police who patrol every entrance.
There are many French who participate, many are also tourists who are there by chance or are aware of them. The fact remains that the atmosphere created is ordered silence and quiet contemplation.

Before the ceremony, President Sarkozy made a walk around the Arc de Triomphe to pass in review the troops and greet the public come at the same time, after traveling by car to the Champs Elysees, escorted by dozens of motorcycle police officer.

So if you're lucky enough to be among the first rows of the crowd you will have the opportunity to greet you too. In the case you were not able to see the whole (the spaces are quite extensive) you can see it from several large screens in the immediate vicinity.
